How does the auto-tracking work?
Two ways. First, you can import an SMS backup file — export one with an app like SMS Backup & Restore and open it in RupeeSafe, which scans it for bank and UPI messages and logs your whole history at once. Second, once you grant notification access, RupeeSafe auto-detects new transaction SMS as their notifications arrive and logs them. It parses the amount, merchant, and account, then files each under a category. All of this happens on your phone — nothing ever leaves the device.
Why doesn't RupeeSafe read my SMS directly?
Google Play now restricts the SMS read/write permissions to a narrow set of app types, so RupeeSafe no longer uses them. Instead it imports transactions from an SMS backup file you provide, and detects new ones through notification access — the same automation without handing over blanket access to your inbox. You can also skip both and use RupeeSafe purely as a manual tracker.
Why does RupeeSafe not ask me to sign up?
Because we don't want your data. Everything lives in your phone's local storage. If you reinstall the app, you import your backup file — no recovery email needed, no password to forget.
Does it really work without internet?
Yes, fully. Importing your backup, detecting new transactions, and adding or reviewing expenses all happen locally and never need a network call.
How do I move my data to a new phone?
Open Settings → Backup, save the encrypted file to Drive or send it to yourself. On the new phone, install RupeeSafe and import the same file.
Is RupeeSafe really free?
Yes. The core app is free to use, with no ads, no account, and no subscription. Optional RupeeSafe Pro is a one-time purchase on Google Play — no recurring subscription, ever.
How much does RupeeSafe Pro cost?
RupeeSafe Pro is a one-time, non-consumable purchase through Google Play. There is no subscription and no recurring charge.
How do I restore RupeeSafe Pro on a new phone?
If you bought Pro with the same Google account, open Google Play on the new phone and tap Restore. The purchase is tied to your Google account, so it should re-enable automatically. If it does not, contact us and we can help.
Is there an iPhone version?
Not currently. The backup import and notification-based detection are built around Android — iOS doesn't allow the same access. The team is small and Android-first for now.
